Okay future therapists, in the last episode you heard Myra Garcia, LCSW and Myself, a Licensed Professional Counselor, National Board Certified Therapist, talk about what to GENERALLY expect when becoming a therapist.
The plan is to explore the different kinds of mental health professionals in this LARGE and GROWING community from the bottom up...meaning, I'll talk to therapy students, interns, graduate level interns/associates, and fully licensed professionals about how they become or are in the process of becoming THERAPISTS.
This week we are moving up the ladder and discovering how Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists are made.
We start with two Associate level MFT's, Mishka Kimball, AMFT and Luis Cornejo, AMFT. Below is some must-have info about my two guests!
Luis Cornejo, M.S, AMFT (Founder & Editor-in-Chief of PsychoSocial)
Luis is an Associate Marriage & Family Therapist who graduated from Long Beach State University (CSULB) with a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology (2015). He also has a Bachelors degree in Child and Adolescent Development with an emphasis in Public Policy from San Francisco State University (2011). Luis has over 9 years of experience working with children and families both in education and mental health. After graduating with his M.S at CSULB, Luis received the California MFT consortium award for his achievements and commitment to community mental health. PsychoSocial is a multimedia platform founded by Luis Cornejo, AMFT and Co-Founded by Katherine Dominguez, ASW. PsychoSocial is designed to promote mental health awareness, knowledge, and advocacy as well as fight to de-stigmatize mental illness. Through the use of written text, video, social media, and audio, PsychoSocial hopes to create dialogue and support for mental health awareness. PsychoSocial strives to highlight issues impacting the LGBTQ, POC, and other disenfranchised groups. PsychoSocial was also designed to highlight an array of topics impacting mental health which includes creativity, culture, and current events.
