Suicide is a tough subject.
Anthony Bourdain, Kate Spade....these are the two most recent high-profile suicides to impact our society. In this episode, I broach the subject of suicide assessment. As a therapist, this is a part of my day-to-day practice (sadly). Here, I give insight on what a therapist might assess for.
If you or someone you know wants to die by suicide, please reach out to them and give them resources and hope!

Three therapists tackle Stigma- Mental Health Awareness Month
Monday May 07, 2018
Monday May 07, 2018
In this episode, you will hear three therapists have a conversation about how mental health/illness stigma manifests itself in daily practice with clients. Elisa, Monica, and Cristal all have experience working with victims of crime, Latinxs, children, and trauma survivors. All these vulnerable populations experience stigma differently. Elisa speaks about how victims of crime experience stigma. She talks about her experiences with male clients and children. Monica talks about her experiences with curanderismo as mental health treatment... as well as the shortage of male therapists in her area (and everywhere else in the US, we think). And all three talk about their own history with mental health diagnoses and treatment.

In this candid conversation with three other people of color, we detail some of our personal experiences in White America. Americanization, acculturation, and assimilation can cause emotional and mental struggles. In this episode we also tackle: microaggressions, what Latinxs think of the US Border Patrol, being Latinx in higher education, and rampant systemic oppression (even in a Border City).
